A Northamptonshire business membership organisation has confirmed a leadership change at NNBN, after co-founder Marie Baker stepped back from the network.
Marie launched NNBN with Simon Cox in January 2022 to support small firms and charities across Northants. The pair built the organisation around in-person networking events, introductions and practical support.
Since then, NNBN says it has become a core part of the local business community. It currently represents 174 members and has expanded its offer. Additionally, it now runs a digital magazine, workshops, annual visits to the Houses of Parliament and its own awards programme.
Before setting up NNBN, Marie and Simon worked together on the Kettering Business Network in 2015. That networking model later expanded into groups in Corby, Wellingborough, Daventry and Northampton. However, when COVID-19 paused in-person activity, they brought the strands together into a countywide membership body for Northants.
Marie also runs two web design agencies, Poppy Design Studio and Poppy Eco Hub. As a result, she has decided to focus on growing those businesses. She officially stepped away from NNBN and the awards on Thursday 18 November, with Simon continuing to operate NNBN.
Marie said: “Simon and I have poured so much time and energy into getting NNBN to where it is now and I couldn’t be prouder of what we have achieved. However, Poppy Eco Hub and Poppy Design Studio are both growing quickly and I have been presented with so many great opportunities that I need to explore. I wish NNBN and its members the best of luck for the future and am so grateful to have been a part of their business growth journeys.”
Simon added: “Marie and I have worked together for ten years now, and she has been a major part of NNBN and our business community. During that time, I have seen Marie and her businesses grow and flourish and I wish her luck for the future. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Marie for everything she has contributed to NNBN over the years, and her previous support of the various local business networks which led to the creation of NNBN.”
Meanwhile, NNBN said members will continue to receive the same level of service. Events will run as normal, and planning is underway for the 2026 awards.
