NNBN director Simon Cox has joined the East Midlands Cyber Resilience Centre advisory group, a move designed to strengthen cyber support for businesses across Northamptonshire and improve access to practical guidance for small firms. This new role reinforces NNBN’s ongoing work to help micro and small businesses navigate security risks and digital challenges.

The EMCRC advisory group brings together business and third-sector representatives to provide strategic insight that helps shape the centre’s work across the East Midlands. Its members guide the organisation’s approach, ensuring that the support offered reflects the evolving digital landscape and the increasing need for effective protection against online threats.

As part of its mission, NNBN works closely with small businesses through the Northamptonshire Business Network. Many members have experienced issues linked to online crime, from phishing attempts to data breaches. Consequently, they have already been engaging with the EMCRC through its Community Ambassador programme, which aims to give organisations across the region access to essential security information, practical resources and early awareness of emerging risks.

Simon also serves as Head of Policy at the Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce. His appointment to the advisory group strengthens the partnership between the EMCRC and local business organisations. Furthermore, it reflects the growing recognition that cyber resilience is now central to business continuity and long-term success.

Detective Inspector Colin Ellis, managing director and police lead at the EMCRC, welcomed the appointment. He said Simon is a committed advocate for Northamptonshire’s business community and brings strong energy to supporting organisations across the county. Colin added that Simon’s understanding of the pressures faced by small firms will help the centre refine its messaging and extend its reach across the East Midlands.

Speaking about his new role, Simon said he is pleased to support deeper engagement between the EMCRC and the wider Northamptonshire business community. He stressed that regular dialogue is essential, particularly as businesses face frequent cyber challenges and need timely, accurate information to protect their operations.

Businesses interested in receiving updates from the East Midlands Cyber Resilience Centre can join the EMCRC mailing list via its website. More information about NNBN and its support for Northamptonshire businesses is available at nnbn.co.uk.
