THERE’S never a dull moment at Pitsford School, where academic studies are combined with more than 60 different extra-curricular options to ensure pupils make the most of their time.
An excellent record in the core subjects is at the centre of Pitsford School’s approach, of course, with small class sizes meaning that each pupil gets the individual attention they need to develop their strengths and support their weaknesses.
And out of the classroom there is even more scope to develop, with the chance to join scores of clubs and groups – from sports teams to drama and chess clubs, to history and modern languages sessions – as well as homework club, which gives pupils the chance to get their homework done in school with all the resources they need to hand.
The clubs and societies, as well as giving pupils the opportunity to try out new activities in their free time, also acknowledge that school hours need to reflect the fact that many parents need to make arrangements to cover the early or later parts of the day. Children can be in school from 8am to 5.20pm, taking part in extra-curricular activities or in homework clubs. In addition, a bus service is run by the school to pick up pupils from various points across the county.
The extra-curricular activities also form part of the school’s ethos of bringing pupils of different ages together so that they interact with those in other year groups. Many sports teams, for instance, include children from different year groups, while a school musical is staged every year, giving all pupils the chance to work together.
Pitsford School takes children from Reception through to Sixth Form and prospective parents are invited to two Open Days each year. The next will be held in October but parents are also welcome to arrange to visit any time during term time when they will be shown round the school before meeting the headteacher.
