North Northamptonshire Council is inviting local businesses to take part in a short fleet EV survey to help shape future support and charging infrastructure across the area.

The survey is being run by the council’s electric vehicle team and aims to understand how businesses are approaching the transition to battery electric vehicles (BEVs), alongside other low-carbon options. Feedback will be used to inform infrastructure planning and policy decisions across North Northamptonshire.

Electric vehicle uptake continues to grow rapidly, both nationally and locally. More than a quarter of all new vehicles sold in the UK in October 2025 were electric, increasing demand for reliable and accessible charging infrastructure.

However, the council recognises that the transition is not straightforward for all businesses. While most BEVs on the road are cars, many organisations operate larger vehicles where electrification presents greater challenges. This includes vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, such as HGVs, as well as specialist fleets.

As a result, some businesses are currently exploring alternative fuels, including hydrotreated vegetable oil (HVO), as interim solutions. Others are considering installing charging points at depots, sharing facilities with neighbouring businesses, or making use of future large-scale multi-fuel hubs.

The council is working with private sector partners to expand the local chargepoint network and expects infrastructure availability to increase significantly by 2030. Business input is seen as critical to ensuring future investment is targeted effectively.

By completing the survey, businesses can help the council identify:

  • Barriers to fleet electrification
  • The level of support required by local firms
  • Opportunities to accelerate fleet decarbonisation

The survey is open to businesses of all sizes operating in North Northamptonshire and is described as quick and straightforward to complete.
