In line with the government’s drive to improve sustainability, accessibility and carbon reduction in construction, GSSArchitecture continues to develop its Design for Manufacture and Assembly strategy as part of their ongoing commitment to utilising Modern Methods of Construction within their designs.
The specialist MMC team at GSS have developed their strategy through continued research into the latest practices and technologies surrounding MMC, allowing the practice to remain at the forefront of the industry.
GSS has been actively involved in promoting these methods, where appropriate, for several years, delivering award-winning work particularly in the education, residential and student accommodation sectors. The benefits of these methods are particularly prevalent in these sectors, where prefabricated elements can ensure that time on site is reduced, ultimately ensuring that construction costs are kept down, quality is improved, and projects remain affordable for clients.
Their previous award-winning work has utilised a variety of innovative off-site and modular construction methods, including the use of structurally insulated panels, cross-laminated timber, prefabricated elements, and entire offsite manufacturing. The latter is an extremely well-implemented technique during GSSArchitecture’s recent affordable housing scheme, delivered alongside Bromford Housing, which consisted of all of the news homes being constructed off-site, allowing the team to minimise disruption in the local area.
As a practice, GSS also places great importance on incorporating sustainability, alongside health and wellbeing considerations into their designs. The specialist teams carry out site visits, utilise 3D software and conduct continuous research to ensure the delivery of innovative, well-considered and cost-effective solutions to meet their client’s needs.
