Thirst for new ideas

LAST year was a great year for Jones architecture + design. They broke in to education with a new primary school project, worked on anaerobic digestion plants and continued to excel in the design of car dealerships having worked with some of the largest automotive groups in the UK on brands such as Jaguar, Land Rover, Lamborghini, Mercedes Benz and Volvo. Their automotive experience also landed them a significant project at Silverstone designing a new HQ for a well known racing team.

They ended the year on a high, working on a new local community sports facility, an interior workplace project and a private residential development not to mention being a finalist in the Northamptonshire Business Excellence Awards, Creative Innovation Sector. And 2015 looks equally promising as they anticipate further growth and development with a particular focus on the leisure and hospitality sector. Wayne Jones, Managing Director, is excited by 2015. He said: “Northamptonshire continues to develop into a really vibrant place to live and do business. The county’s hospitality and food and drink sector in particular is really exciting at the moment and we were excited to see some great established and new concepts at October’s Food and Drink Awards. It is great to see that thirst to create something really special and personal to the operator. “There is so much competition on the high street and locally between operators to attract customers. We like to think that we help our clients naturally differentiate themselves from those rolled out concepts and enable them to stand out from the crowd. “Traditionally, design and food trends are heavily influenced by what is going on in London and the south of the country but it is really encouraging to see Northamptonshire at the forefront of what is going on. We are looking to 2015 to be a year where we team up with more local operators in the county to be part of this movement towards an even, stronger, more vibrant food and drink sector. “Our work with small pub groups over the last few years has been particularly rewarding. Recently, we helped Surrey-based Red Mist Leisure take a run-down traditional pub into a thriving business. This involved opening up the space structurally forming a lighter and brighter space through use of roof lights. We opened up the building into a neighbouring barn building for a new dining space with glazed doors opening onto a new courtyard. Additionally we formed an open kitchen, which allows Red Mist to showcase their chefs at work and promote their freshly made credentials. This project went on to be a finalist in the 2014 Casual Dining Interior Design Awards. Quite an accolade! “The dining operation of a pub now leads the way but the design allows for a relaxed all-day trading where there is no formal split between eating and drinking. There is now a real casual feel that attracts customers of many ages and demographics. “There may be lots of similar opportunities for local businesses to open up new revenue streams at their venues. Underused spaces can be utilised for functions or rented out for meetings, external areas given a make over to increase external covers. Our work with Red Mist has also involved turning unused out buildings and run down staff areas into letting bedrooms that are hugely popular. We are looking to 2015 as a pivotal year where we can share our expertise with like minded business in the county and continue this growth in the food and drink sector.” If you would like to discuss a project, call 01604 211470 or email for a no obligation informal chat.
