The 1930’s brick built village hall in Holcot has gone from strength to strength since its refurbishment one year ago.
After years of physical decline, a major programme of renovation and extension at Holcot Village Hall delivered structural-integrity, improved conditions and a blossoming new Youth Club courtesy of a £34,000 grant from the Mick George Community Fund.
The facility continues to be the main social venue for the thriving rural village community and surrounding areas and has been host to numerous successful events including amateur dramatics, pantomimes, concerts, flower shows and increased private or family functions.
Phil Scordellis, Chair of Holcot Village Hall association commented: ‘’The financial decline caused by a downward trend in bookings was something we needed to rectify to prevent the ‘hall’ closing. The grant provided by Mick George focused on improving visual and practical user appeal and has successfully reversed that trend, securing the financial sustainability of the ‘hall’, long-term.’’
Scordellis continued: ‘’Holcot today has a Village Hall it can be proud of, with the cosy heritage atmosphere of the original, but now with all those traditional features restored both internally and externally. Crucially practical areas such as disabled facilities, lighting and parking have been developed.”
The Community Fund which is managed by Grantscape, an independent charity, supports community projects that are located in the vicinity of Mick George Ltd operating sites in Northamptonshire, Cambridgeshire, Lincolnshire and Rutland. Up to £200,000 is made available each year for projects that deliver significant environmental benefits and provide new and better community amenities.
Jon Stump, Finance Director at Mick George Ltd ‘’The scheme has proven invaluable to many local communities, helping to create, restore and protect a whole array of landmarks and projects. Since 2010 when the programme was launched, £682,000 has been invested in over twenty five individual developments.’’
