As part of the school’s annual Carnival Crowning event pupils, parents, staff and governors of Loatlands Primary School in Desborough celebrated the completion of the Northamptonshire County Council’s £2.9million refurbishment and expansion project.
The ceremony took place on Tuesday, 23rd June, 2015. Guests included members of Northamptonshire County Council, Lendlease and Architects from GSSArchitecture.
Designed by GSSArchitecture, the existing school has been extended and remodelled to increase capacity to a two-form entry and to upgrade existing facilities, providing teaching facilities within a flexible, modern learning environment.
The extensions provide a new school hall and studio space, seven additional classrooms, with break out areas for both collaborative and individual learning, and a specialist teaching room for activities such as food technology and art. The original school hall has also been imaginatively designed and furnished, to provide a new central learning resource centre. Externally, additional parking and hard play areas have been provided.
The new hall and studio now provide the school with space for enhanced PE activities, dining and large group activities. The hall’s location and design have been carefully considered to benefit local community groups.
Headteacher, Ashley Izzard said: “The completion of Loatlands Primary school expansion and refurbishment has given the school environment a new lease of life, which is helping us to ensure the delivery of a continued quality education to the children of Desborough, now and in the future. As the school population increases, it is reassuring to know that we will have excellent facilities in place to meet the needs of the children, with new larger classrooms, a discovery practical room, large hall and dance studio.”
