An advocate and dedicated participant in NEP’s Enterprise Advisers scheme was invited to Buckingham Palace earlier this month (May) as a Royal Garden Party guest.

Northamptonshire business consultant, Karen Kissane, was one of around 8,000 guests, all of whom have made a positive impact in their community. Karen’s name was put forward as a Business and Skills related nominee.

Karen is passionate about her role as an Adviser and the essential need to ensure schools and their students have the greatest possible insight into the job opportunities available on their doorstep and the changing skill sets required of young people as they start and develop their careers.

Her experience has been called on by various schools in Northamptonshire. She has delivered talks to sixth form students in small groups to inspire them about self-employment options as well as to younger students to highlight the types of work and opportunities that science qualifications can open up – Karen’s background and training was in Molecular Biology and sales training in the Life Sciences.

Of her afternoon at Buckingham Palace, Karen said: “It was a huge privilege and an honour to have been invited to the Royal Garden Party and I would like to thank whoever nominated me. It was a charming and wonderful experience shared by members of the Royal Family including the Queen and Prince Phillip, The Prince of Wales and Camilla Parker-Bowles, Princess Anne and the Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.”
