A leading national infrastructure firm that is based in Northampton has welcomed measures introduced in the 2015 Budget that it says is good news for the UKs national economy.
Briggs & Forrester is one of the UKs leading building services engineering companies with a turnover of over £100 million and last week it welcomed the planning shake up announced by Government in the Fixing the Foundations package from the Department for Business.
“Investment from Whitehall into infrastructure is investment into our national economy.” said Mike Stanton, Group Chairman at Briggs & Forrester. “The announcement from Government that when needed planning powers will be devolved and fast tracked is good news for infrastructure and good news for jobs.”
In the announcement, planning powers will be devolved to mayors in major cities while enhanced compulsory purchase powers will allow more brownfield land to be made available for development.
There would also be new sanctions for councils that do not deal with planning applications quickly enough, and the government would be able to intervene in councils’ local development plans.
“Coupled with £100 billion investment in the transport network and commitment to grow the UK aviation capacity we now have the opportunity to move infrastructure growth, which drives our local, regional and national economies, to the next level.” Mike Stanton continued.
Briggs & Forrester provide a range of specialist skills encompassing engineering, design, installation and maintenance. The combined knowledge, expertise and experience enables the group to develop and implement fully integrated solutions for some of the most complex and demanding mechanical, electrical and public health engineering installations.
