History, charm and character

THE Royal Ordnance Depot at Weedon Bec, dates back to the early 19th Century when it was purpose built during the Napoleonic Wars, standing proudly either side of a spur from the Grand Union canal.

Situated in the centre of England, it was an important and largely secretive arms and distribution depot and remained in operation throughout the Second World War and through to the 1950s, until it was decommissioned in 1965.

The site, now known as The Depot, was purchased in 2012 by entrepreneur Michael Chittenden and he has since gone on to invest substantial sums to further the improvement of the site. It was The Depot’s history, combined with its undeniable character and charm, that persuaded Michael to buy the site and he intends to do everything possible to preserve its heritage.

Michael’s vision is to create a centre for businesses. There is already an eclectic mix of businesses enjoying being part of this community feel. An on-site visitor centre opened in 2018, with help from the Heritage Lottery Fund.

The most recent project is the creation of offices in a building simply known as Building 17. Situated at the far end of the site, with its own entrance, this building was originally built to be a uniform store and comprises 6,000 square feet on each of its three floors.

The ground floor will be a co-working shared space, with a cafe among other amenities such as a recording room and seminar space. Although this building is full of heritage features it will be mixed with the most modern-day tech to provide a positive, creative environment to work in.

The Depot offers flexible leases on various buildings of differing shapes and sizes, other benefits include:

* Superspeed wifi served by its own data centre

* Centrally located

* Affordable flexible leases

* Optional business rates support

* Ample parking

* 24-hour security
