GSSArchitecture has recently been achieving award success as a number of projects have been shortlisted in the national RICS design awards, covering various regions of the country, including the South East, East of England and East Midlands.
In the East Midlands, the Attenborough Arts Centre, Leicester’s new contemporary arts venue, has been shortlisted in the Tourism and Leisure and the Community Benefit categories. The New Galleries Wing increased the size of the arts building by 50%, and has created a series of interlinked spaces, together with an external sculpture garden.

In the East Midlands, the Attenborough Arts Centre, Leicester’s new contemporary arts venue, has been shortlisted in the Tourism and Leisure and the Community Benefit categories. The New Galleries Wing increased the size of the arts building by 50%, and has created a series of interlinked spaces, together with an external sculpture garden. The Attenborough Arts Centre is the largest contemporary art space in Leicester, and one of the largest in the East Midlands. The results for this region will be presented at a ceremony in April 2016 at Kelham Hall, Newark.
In the East of England, the Old Bishop’s Palace at King’s Ely has been shortlisted in the Building Conservation category. This project involved the sensitive conversion of the Grade-1 Listed building and former home of the Bishops of Ely into a new Sixth Form Centre for the school. The development delivers sixth form classrooms, boarding rooms, a new girl’s boarding house, and dining and gym facilities. The scheme transformed a medieval building into a modern learning environment, which highlights the building’s former glory and original features. The results for this region will be announced at a ceremony in May 2016 at The Apex, Bury St. Edmunds.
In the South East, the Science Discovery Centre at the Royal Latin School has been shortlisted in the Design through Innovation category. The new facility builds upon the school’s strong foundation of excellence in science, providing 12 laboratories and teaching rooms for practical lessons and theory-based teaching. Informal breakout spaces, meeting rooms, a preparation room, a staff base and a roof terrace complete the accommodation. The results for this region will be presented at a ceremony in May 2016 at the Amex Stadium, Brighton.
Additionally, the Attenborough Arts Centre has recently been announced as the winner of the Leicester Civic Society New Build Award, 2015. The award will be presented at a ceremony on Friday, 15 April 2016, at The City Rooms, Leicester.
