The Latimer Arts College celebrated its fourth annual ‘Pride of Latimer’ awards on Tuesday 5 July at The Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering, welcoming over 500 parents, carers and supporters to a spectacular evening of entertainment and presentations showcasing the very best in student achievement.
The event recognised more than 200 Latimer students for their excellence across a range of categories, including: Creativity & Innovation; Student Choice; Sports Personality; Community Spirit; Rising Stars, and the Spirit of Latimer Award.

The Latimer Arts College celebrated its fourth annual ‘Pride of Latimer’ awards on Tuesday 5 July at The Lighthouse Theatre in Kettering, welcoming over 500 parents, carers and supporters to a spectacular evening of entertainment and presentations showcasing the very best in student achievement.
The event recognised more than 200 Latimer students for their excellence across a range of categories, including: Creativity & Innovation; Student Choice; Sports Personality; Community Spirit; Rising Stars, and the Spirit of Latimer Award.
Students also entertained the audience with musical hits and performances from The Latimer Jazz Band, The Latimer SATB Ensemble, The Collaborative Choir, The Performing Arts Collaboration, and a popular ‘Ode to Shakespeare’ by the Year 12 Drama Group.
Drawing a football comparison, The Latimer Arts College Principal, Siobhan Hearne, said:
“What does a 5,000-1 football team who outfoxed all other premier league opposition and a small, Nordic nation who silenced a lion’s roar have in common with our Pride of Latimer award winners this evening?
“The answer is that in 2016 they have all shown spirit, determination and an overwhelming desire to achieve their dream.”
Latimer Student Jack Williams (Year 12) won the Community Spirit and Student Choice Awards. He said: “I’ve really enjoyed helping with parents’ evenings, our recent business breakfast, and working with primary school pupils on sensitive issues like Holocaust Memorial Day.
“The opportunities at Latimer have really increased my confidence and I’m hoping to go on and study criminology at university and eventually join the police.”
Alix Andrews (Year 11) won an Excellence Award in Geography. She said: “I really enjoy geography and eventually I’d like to get a PhD and teach at university. I’d love to go to Japan because we’ve been studying a lot about the tectonics there recently.”
The evening’s special guest speaker was Ann Akin, Artistic Director of the Harts Theatre Company and a professional actress with credits including Cold Feet, EastEnders, Humans, and You, Me and the Apocalypse.
Addressing the students directly, Ann said: “This is a really special evening and there is something very powerful about celebrating young people’s achievements.
“You can do anything you want to do, if you believe in it and are prepared to work hard. Always remember, rejection and achievement go hand-in-hand, keep learning, be good to yourself, and treat others well.”
