NORTHAMPTONSHIRE business owners and charities met with MPs representing constituencies across the county at Westminster on Wednesday at an event organised by membership group NNBN.

The group’s co-founders Simon and Marie Cox were joined by 23 members on a tour of the Palace of Westminster and the Houses of Parliament. The party then sat down with four Northamptonshire MPs to discuss key issues and concerns relating to business in the county.

They included business concerns consisting of employer National Insurance contributions, access to funding, attracting and retaining talent, concerns around empty units on the high street, uncertainty over Artificial Intelligence, rising costs for businesses and legislation changes following Brexit.

MPs Mike Reader (Northampton South), Stuart Andrew (Daventry), Rosie Wrighting (Kettering) and Lee Barron (Corby & East Northamptonshire) also joined the conversation on support for young people starting businesses, concerns around late payment issues and the impact this is making on cashflow, as well as a specific ask to support the manufacturing sector.

NNBN director Simon Cox, who organised the visit, said: “The day presented an opportunity for local businesses, charities and organisations based in Northamptonshire to engage with MPs.

“I was delighted that Northamptonshire businesses, charities and organisations were able to raise their questions to the MPs and that they were willing to listen to concerns.”

There are follow-up meetings to be had from the Q&A meeting, he added. Thanking the MPs for joining the Q&A session, Mr Cox said: “We appreciated their time and openness when it came to the questions that were raised.”
