ICONIC 1960s Route Master buses have been given a new lease of life by Stagecraft Visual Communications to promote Pimms at what promises to be one of the country’s most prestigious events.

The events design and manufacturing team based in Higham Ferrers are undertaking the refurbishment of the buses in time to return to the streets of London to play a part in the Queen’s Patrons Lunch on the 12 June.

This high profile celebration in Mall and Trafalgar Square will be at the heart of the street parties being planned across the country to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Since the firm was set up 30 years ago by musicians Barrie Fletcher and Chris Hobbs-Rex they have grown used to meeting the challenges from internationallyknown brands. Pimms is owned by the world’s largest premium drinks company Diageo, which holds four Royal warrants of appointment from Her Majesty the Queen and operates in 180 countries,

The team have not only been called on to work on the Pimms brand but have been able to work their magic on other Diageo brands including Johnnie Walker, J & B, Captain Morgan, Guinness, Smirnoff, Gordons, Baileys, Archers, Blossom Hill and Bells whiskey.

Each time the Stagecraft team have come up with innovative ideas to enhance the brand’s assets. This time the latest project has seen the Stagecraft team call on the specialism of Truck East, based in Wellingborough.

Chris said: “The buses need to be fully functional for their London date with bars serving on the lower area and hospitality on the first deck. We regard Truck East as the county’s leading authority on all things trucks and produce outstanding work so they have undertaken the external body and paintwork. Another local company that will play a part in this contract will be Bushboard who are also based in Wellingborough and who are world leaders in the manufacture of work surfaces. Bushboard will supply their new innovative Omega and Prima range for this project.

“After this prestigious event the buses will come back to Stagecraft to start the internal renovations with designs which have now been approved by the Pimm’s brand. These works will be done via a phased approach as the units will be operating during the summer at many outside events.“

This will include another locally-based company Two Solutions putting to good use their extensive experience in event vehicle conversions and interiors.

Chris said: “We are very proud from our very humble beginnings we are able to work with global brands at prestigious events.”
