Sky’s the limit with new build

GSSArchitecture, one of the leading national architecture, quantity surveying and lead consultant practices, have revisited a previous new build project, and have provided Northants Cricket with new, permanent media facilities. These new roof level features include a new Invision television studio, together with a separate commentary box. The new media facilities are to improve the current television broadcasting services, as well as to provide modern and essential structures for live commentary at a suitable location and position. This involved the extension to both stair cores at either end of the building, in order to access the boxes. Additionally, an extension of the existing roof access walkway provides a camera gantry position for elevated filming directly down the wicket line, in a position so as not to obstruct the spectators’ view during matches. The external appearance of the Invision studio and commentary box consists of full height structural glazed panels that face towards the cricket pitch, symmetrically situated at either end in order to harmonise the south facing elevation.  The external finish consists of cladding panels to match the finish of the existing building, and the height of the boxes does not exceed the height of the vertical steel columns, known as Steelbacks. Northants Cricket Chief Executive said “We are delighted with the new Sky boxes here at the County Ground. Many of our members and visitors have commented positively about how they look and they already feel part of the ground. We can’t wait to use them”. Senior Partner at GSS, David Allsop said “We are very thankful to all contractors and Northants Cricket staff, particularly Ray Payne, Chief Executive, for all their assistance in the process of this development. Additionally, we would like to wish Northants Cricket continued good luck in the forthcoming season”. The first televised Sky match was on Thursday, 11th June 2015 at 18:30 at the Northamptonshire County Cricket Ground, where the Northampton Steelbacks played the Derbyshire Falcons; which resulted in a win for the Northampton Steelbacks, by 6 wickets.
