A LEADING foam conversion company and its clients are seeing the benefits of systems put in place to bring about zero to landfill waste disposal.
Foam Techniques, in Booth Drive, Wellingborough, has achieved 100 per cent reuse or recycling – an achievement that can be passed through the supply chain so that its suppliers and customers can also enhance their own green credentials.
Stephen Thomas, Operations Director at Foam Techniques, said: “As a business, it’s something that means a lot to us, but it’s also something our customers expect, as they are keen to ensure that their own environmental standards are maintained.
“We want to be at the top of our game and so, from the beginning of June this year, we have been proud to say that we send nothing to landfill at all.”
Cardboard and packaging is bundled and collected for recycling, while off-cuts of foam are chipped for use in other applications, such as in the manufacture of carpet underlay. Anything that cannot be used, because adhesives or coatings have been attached, is sent for disposal by a specialist firm, with the small amount of waste left after all that is processed and turned into electricity.
“We recognise that the future depends on companies taking more responsibility for the waste they produce and our customers appreciate the steps we take,” said Stephen Thomas. “It also means that anyone looking for a foam product can come to us, knowing that processes are already in place so that they can use our efforts as part of their own environmental strategy.”
