A NEW campaign to promote the multitude of career opportunities available to young people in Northamptonshire is being launched by NEP on 5 March.

Love our Future Workforce will run throughout 2015 with a series of activities including events and school visits by apprentice and industry ambassadors.

The campaign will encourage local young people to explore the breadth of career breaks available to them in Northamptonshire and help them make informed choices.

Schools of choice

NEP is putting young people at the heart of the countywide promotion and has been working with Year 11 and A-level students at a number of schools to test out the language used in the marketing collateral.

This is to make sure it engages with Northamptonshire’s future workforce and speaks to this important group in a credible and relevant voice.

The first focus groups were run in partnership with Northampton Academy and Guilsborough School at the beginning of February and were hugely informative to the campaign.

Around 20 students gave up their lunchtimes to join NEP and explore campaign messages and devise new ones through a series of mini-sessions designed to encourage creative thinking, communication and team working.

The NEP marketing team also shared their career experience, offering advice and guidance about the opportunities available in their field of work.

Karen Betty, Head of Careers, Northampton Academy, said: “We were very pleased that our students, the future workforce, were invited to be part of this campaign and were impressed with the knowledge they accrued as a result. The students were able to gain a better understanding of the process of marketing and how and why their opinions were important to the campaign.

“The clear message I came away with was that the schools’ employability links with industry are invaluable to both parties, enabling students to learn more about Northamptonshire companies and the career opportunities and benefits they offer.”

The results of the campaign with posters spotlighting Northamptonshire apprentices will be seen across Northamptonshire on billboards in schools, on social media networks and at lovebrightfutures.com from the beginning of March.

Fresh insight into local careers

From high performance technologies to fashion, manufacturing, food and drink, logistics, automotive, banking and finance, Love our Future Workforce will give young people and their families fresh insight into the many job and career opportunities right on their doorstep.

The campaign will also challenge businesses to capitalise on the young talent in their communities by connecting with schools, forging stronger links with students and offering apprenticeships, work placements and outreach events.
