The Federation of Small Business has appointed a Northampton-based small business owner as area leader for Northamptonshire, Leicestershire and Rutland.

Sally Wood, a consultant finance director, was co-opted into the role last year and has now been officially elected by the FSB’s members, including its 2,000 members in Northamptonshire, to lead local lobbying and representation.

She will be helping FSB to ensure that the needs of Northamptonshire’s small businesses are prioritised with local councils, MPs and other organisations on which small businesses rely.

Ms Wood joined the FSB in 2019 having set up in business after a senior corporate finance career, and has become a key part of FSB’s local volunteer team, taking a lead role in Northamptonshire on FSB’s events and business support. She hostst the FSB’s monthly Northants networking event.

Her role is part of FSB’s lobbying on behalf of the UK’s 5.5 million small businesses, .

Ms Wood said: “I am delighted to have been appointed to this key role and want to ensure that the voice of small businesses across my area is heard loud and clear. Having started as a business owner shortly before the pandemic hit, I understand the issues that business owners face, particularly as we navigate our way through the uncertain times we have been experiencing since 2020.

“I am passionate about using my position as FSB area leader as a platform to support and advocate for the small business community, whether that is by working with stakeholders to ensure that small business interests are represented or by hosting online events to bring business owners together in a friendly and welcoming environment. I am excited to take this even further during my new term of appointment.

“Small businesses are the lifeblood of our local and national economy, which is why I am dedicated to doing all I can to support and represent those across Northamptonshire. I look forward to working with the FSB team to ensure we stay at the heart of the local debate and at the forefront of business policy decision-making.”
