THIS month sees a new look for two of the most popular aspects of the service in the Bar and Restaurant at Kettering Park Hotel.
Sunday lunch and afternoon tea will be taken to a new level when they are relaunched at the end of August, with some special features and an emphasis, particularly for Sunday lunch, on relaxing with the family in the traditional way.
A new Carving Trolley will see beautifully cooked roast beef carved and served at the table with Yorkshire puddings and traditional beef gravy – along with bowls teeming with roast potatoes and fresh vegetables so that everyone can serve themselves – just like round the dinner table at home.
To encourage groups to arrive early and stay on a while after, a range of classic games will be available – hopefully without the traditional family arguments, but certainly without the electronics and screens that seem to be creep into dinner time if we’re not careful.
Additional choices will be available for those not wishing to partake of the Sunday roast. Theses will be based on classic British dishes ‘with a twist’. As always, the restaurant’s Chef’s Table, where guests help themselves from a selection of fresh seafood, artisan cured meats and seasonal salads, will be available as a starter or main course.
To finish off in traditional style, there will be a selection of desserts, from steamed and baked puddings to lighter choices, depending on the season, and a range of ice-cream sundaes. A children’s menu featuring mini versions of the main dishes, along with a few carefully chosen extras, will also be on offer.
Andrew Hollett, General Manager of Kettering Park Hotel, said: “We believe that Sunday lunch is the time for families and friends to sit down together and enjoy a meal in the old-fashioned way. It’s a time to slow down and enjoy good food and one another’s company and make an occasion of it.
“We’ve also found that our Afternoon Teas are becoming increasingly popular and so we’ve added a few new touches there, too, which we hope guests will enjoy.”
Membership of the Tea Guild guarantees the quality of the hot drinks, but there’s plenty more to enjoy including hot pancakes with a range of accompaniments, an updated range of savoury items and, of course, the usual afternoon tea favourites of sandwiches and cakes.
