First-class service in a relaxed setting

AWARDS bring high expectations and the team at the village pub The Stag’s Head in Great Doddington know how important it is to continue to make the right impression.

The independently run pub and restaurant is open every day from 11am to 11pm. Food is served all day on Saturday and Sunday – either in the beamed restaurant or cellar restaurant, the open plan lounge, or the garden bar which is also dog friendly and leads to an enclosed garden. Perfect for those summer barbecues.

It is 26 years since Gerry and Bob Rendle took on the venue and they are supported by a loyal team headed up by licensee and General Manager Kelly Rendle.

The team includes Head Chef Glenn Shelswell, who has been working at The Stag’s Head for 25 years, backed up by Chef Len King, who has 19 years’ service.

The Stag’s Head serves high-quality food seven days a week, including three roasts on a Sunday, plus their full menu and specials of the day. This is available on Sundays from 12 noon to 8pm giving customers another excellent reason to visit.

The new menus are just about to be launched, with tempting starters like tiger prawns in a hot sizzling garlic sauce, prawn and avocado cocktail or shredded warm aromatic duck, beansprout and beetroot salad, maybe followed by an extra mature chargrilled fillet steak, topped with a portobello mushroom stuffed with a garlic and tomato concasse, smoked haddock served with a chive and watercress butter, or perhaps Gressingham duck breast served sliced and pink with a sweet cherry sauce, not to mention the pub’s most popular Chef’s handmade steak pie or good old shepherd’s pie topped with cheesy mash. There is something to suit everyone’s taste including a really good selection of snacks and a dairy and gluten-free menu.

The Stag’s Head team pride themselves on catering for special occasions including birthdays, anniversaries, christenings, wakes and business meetings. Various other menus are available on request, or online, including options for buffets, snacks, barbecues and parties plus set menus or a bespoke menu for the extra special occasion.

The Stag’s Head’s aim is to provide customers with great-quality home-cooked food from a varied menu and first-class service in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, leaving customers wanting to return.
