Restaurant winning fresh recognition

COUNTRYSIDE hotel Whittlebury Hall has inspirational Harvey Lockwood as head chef of its refurbished 2 AA Rosette restaurant, Murrays.

The 30-cover restaurant, which underwent extensive refurbishment last summer, is now winning fresh recognition for its a la carte and six-course tasting menu designed to showcase the finest local and British ingredients.

Harvey, who has just been announced as a finalist in the Chef of the Year category in this year’s Northamptonshire Food and Drink Awards, was runner up for the Northamptonshire Chef of the Year in 2014/15, has extensive experience including time at five-star hotels Cowarth Park and The Vineyard in Berkshire, and at 3 AA Rosette restaurant The Landau at The Langham in London. He first started at Whittlebury Hall in 2011, progressing from sous chef to become head chef of Murrays restaurant.

Harvey’s return to Murrays late last year is part of the ongoing investment in the 254-bedroom, four-star hotel, which is set in hundreds of acres of ancient parkland and just a 10-minute drive from junction 15a of the M1 and 20 minutes from central Milton Keynes. Alongside Murrays there are meetings and events facilities available catering for up to 3,000 delegates, a luxurious spa and first-class golf facilities including a 36-hole Championship course and driving range.

Harvey said: “I enjoyed working in Murrays when I was at Whittlebury Hall before and, having gone away to gain greater experience of hotel food and beverage management, I’m now incredibly excited to be able to return and make my mark on Murrays.

“With the refurbishment that’s taken place, giving the restaurant a more modern look and feel, I am exploring new tastes, working closely with Northamptonshire producers and experimenting with modern cooking techniques to create menus which excite and delight our guests.”

Murrays is open for dinner Wednesday to Sunday, serving an a la carte menu starting from £19.95 for mains and a six-course tasting menu for £65 per person, with paired wines available at additional cost.

Hotel and spa packages including dinner in Murrays restaurant are also available – visit www.whittleburyhall.co.uk or call 01327 850489 for more information and to book.
