Northamptonshire-based Moulton College has been confirmed as the latest Further Education Partner of CIMSPA, the Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity.
The partnership is intended to help ensure Moulton’s sport curriculum reflects the priorities of local employers across the sport, fitness and leisure sector. CIMSPA will work with Moulton College on the design, development and delivery of its sports and associated courses, with a focus on addressing skills gaps and supporting student employability.
Micki Ruggins, technical education officer at CIMSPA, said: “We work with further education colleges to ensure the curriculum is responsive to the needs of local businesses operating in the sports sector. By working closely with staff on the design, development and delivery of the curriculum across Moulton’s range of sports and associated courses, we can help address skills gaps and ensure the employability of students heading into the industry.”
Moulton College runs a range of sport-based courses and is home to rugby, football, basketball and netball academies. The college’s sports facilities are also used by Northampton Town FC, which trains at the site. The campus also hosts activities including volleyball, weightlifting and rugby.
Leigh Jones, head of sport at Moulton College, said: “Working with CIMSPA keeps what we teach our students up to date and relevant to the needs of the sector. It also enables us to upskill students in readiness for employment so that they leave us equipped to meet the demands of the ever-evolving sport and physical activity industry.
“We are delighted to partner with CIMSPA and look forward to the opportunities it will provide for our students, who will benefit from a smooth transition into work and help build the foundations for successful careers.”
Micki Ruggins added: “Engaging with further education partners like Moulton College is part of a sector-wide engagement drive that links employers, training producers, awarding organisations and higher education providers. The partnership represents Moulton College’s commitment to ensuring its students are fully equipped with in-demand skills and knowledge employers want, and the important role it plays in the local and wider economy.”
Moulton College provides vocational and practical training across key sectors for the region, with study programmes from entry level to degree level.
