Commsave Credit Union deputy chief executive Liellah Currey has won the national Tracy Slane Award after progressing from an administrator role to senior leadership in less than a decade.

The 30-year-old joined the Moulton Park-based credit union while studying at university before taking up a permanent position after graduating. She was appointed deputy chief executive in November 2025.

The Tracy Slane Award is presented by All Together Money, the representative body for credit unions in Great Britain, and recognises a young professional who has made a significant contribution to their organisation and the wider sector.

Liellah said: “I’ve watched Commsave change enormously since I first joined, and I’ve loved seeing that even small changes can make a real difference to members’ lives. I have also worked with lots of other credit unions to help them do the same, and it is that willingness to share and support each other that makes this sector so special.

“I’m honoured to receive this award, proud to be part of Commsave’s journey and am fortunate to work alongside some fantastic colleagues who share the same commitment to our members.”

Her work at Commsave Credit Union has included a focus on service development, information security and technology.

She led the project which secured ISO 27001 accreditation for information security. Commsave says the achievement made it the first UK credit union to secure the internationally recognised standard.

Liellah has also been involved in the credit union’s membership growth. Commsave, which has its headquarters on Moulton Park in Northampton, says it now supports more than 43,000 members across the UK — its highest membership to date — as it marks its 35th anniversary in 2026.

Matt Goulding, chief executive at Commsave Credit Union, said: “Liellah has made an exceptional contribution to both Commsave and the wider credit union movement. She has progressed from administrator to Deputy Chief Executive, demonstrating remarkable dedication, leadership and a deep commitment to the credit union ethos throughout her career.

“Her impact on Commsave’s growth has been significant. She combines strategic vision with operational excellence and, importantly, always keeps the needs of our members at the centre of what she does.

“What particularly distinguishes Liellah is her willingness to share her knowledge with others. Her work with credit unions across the country demonstrates the collaborative spirit at the heart of our movement. This award is deserved recognition of everything she has contributed to Commsave, our members and the wider credit union sector.”

Commsave Credit Union provides savings accounts, credit and financial education, with payroll deduction among the ways members can build regular savings.

Liellah said the financial inclusion role of credit unions remained central to their purpose.

“We’re not here to replace banks – it’s the financial inclusion side that really distinguishes credit unions,” she said. “A lot of our members simply wouldn’t be eligible for affordable credit elsewhere, and making it easy for people to save, often through payroll deductions, means many are building up savings for the first time in their lives.

“That sense of financial security is what credit unions are really about.”
