Delapré Abbey has been named Large Visitor Attraction of the Year at the Northamptonshire Tourism Awards 2026, strengthening its position within Northampton’s visitor economy.
The award recognises organisations that demonstrate commercial sustainability, innovation and contribution to the county’s tourism sector. Consequently, the accolade marks a significant endorsement of Delapré Abbey’s business model.
Amanda Nicols-Polinska, Deputy CEO at Delapré Abbey Preservation Trust, said the team were “absolutely delighted” with the recognition. She said: “This acknowledgement is a testament to the passion and dedication of our staff, trustees, partners and volunteers, who work tirelessly to ensure every visitor enjoys a welcoming, high-quality experience.”
Since reopening fully to the public in 2018, the Grade II* listed estate has developed a diversified operating structure. Delapré Abbey now combines ticketed events, hospitality, venue hire and community programming to generate multiple income streams. As a result, the heritage site has strengthened its resilience within an increasingly competitive visitor attraction market.
Large-scale events including the Easter Eggstravaganza, Food Festival and Classic Car Show remain key drivers of footfall. Meanwhile, theatre productions, heritage tours and outdoor programming help extend dwell time and broaden audience reach across Northamptonshire.
The Northamptonshire Tourism Awards 2026 also recognised the Abbey’s hospitality offer.
Hibiscus, the on-site fine dining restaurant, was highly commended in the Taste of England award. The seven-course tasting menu showcases Northamptonshire produce, including vegetables grown in the Walled Garden and meat supplied by Moulton College. Therefore, Hibiscus plays a central role in increasing per-visitor spend and strengthening Delapré Abbey’s commercial performance.
In addition, volunteer Ken Hodgson received a high commendation in the Unsung Hero category. Judges described him as “somebody who truly represents the heart of the visitor experience, known for going above and beyond”. They added: “Visitors regularly praise Ken’s knowledge, kindness and professionalism. He is a passionate ambassador for Delapré Abbey and for Northamptonshire.”
Alongside commercial growth, Delapré Abbey has expanded its wellbeing programme. By integrating green space with inclusive initiatives, the organisation continues to deliver measurable social value alongside revenue generation.
Approaching 80 years of public ownership in 2026, Delapré Abbey continues to evolve as a strategically managed heritage business. The Northamptonshire Tourism Awards 2026 recognition confirms its growing influence within Northamptonshire’s tourism sector and its status as a sustainable regional enterprise.
