A Corby gym has raised more than £570 for Corby Foodbank after bringing together dozens of members for a day of fitness challenges designed to support local people facing hardship.
Thirty-six members of Distinct Fitness, based on Cockerell Road, took part in the gym’s annual Spring Games, competing in a series of team events that tested strength, stamina and teamwork while raising money for the charity.
The fundraiser is the second consecutive year the gym has supported Corby Foodbank. Last year’s event raised £850.
The competition, organised by gym owners Jacek and Katie Gawor, saw teams of four take on challenges including rowing and ski machine races, sled pushes and a burpee-based relay. The day concluded with a raffle and bake sale, helping to boost the final fundraising total.
Katie Gawor said: “Here at Distinct we are proud of the community we have created, so it was great to bring people together, whatever their age, ability or background. Even members who couldn’t take part in the activities on the day supported the event by buying raffle tickets.
“If our community of gym-goers can have so much fun to get people together and enjoy fitness while supporting those who use Corby Foodbank, then it’s a win-win.”
Martin Langford, manager of Corby Foodbank, welcomed the continued support from the gym.
He said: “It’s always heartwarming to know that Corby Foodbank is at the forefront of people’s minds, and I’m incredibly grateful to Jacek, Katie and everyone at Distinct Fitness for choosing to support us again.
“The money raised will make a real difference to local people facing hardship, helping us provide emergency food parcels to those who need them most in our community. It’s fantastic to see people coming together, having fun and using fitness as a force for good.”
Corby Foodbank provides emergency food parcels and support to people experiencing financial hardship across the town.
