A Northamptonshire-based credit union has reached 40,000 members for the first time in its history, marking a major milestone in a year of strong growth for Commsave Credit Union.
The achievement comes during a transformative period for the organisation, which recently appointed Matt Goulding as Chief Executive.
Matt said: “Reaching 40,000 members is an incredible achievement that reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team. This represents more than just numbers – it reflects growing interest in financial services that are transparent, ethical and community-focused.
“As a not-for-profit co-operative, every penny Commsave makes is reinvested in better services for members or returned as dividends. We’re celebrating thousands of individuals and families who can now build stronger, more secure financial futures.”
Commsave’s growth has been driven by investment in digital services and new partnerships. A new website, launched 18 months ago, and the introduction of direct debit savings have made joining and saving easier than ever.
Earlier this year, the credit union’s 321 Prize Draw campaign attracted more than 1,500 new members between January and April, with winners taking home prizes of £3,000, £2,000 and £1,000.
The credit union’s expanding employer partnership network includes Transpennine Route Upgrade and Travis Perkins, which now offer Commsave’s ethical savings and loans through their payroll schemes. Travis Perkins alone has seen more than 1,000 colleagues join since launching its partnership in 2024.
Members benefit from:
Safe savings with annual dividends often higher than high street banks
Affordable loans based on individual circumstances, not just credit scores
Financial education and wellbeing support
A free Bereavement Fund for families in need
A monthly Friends of Commsave Lottery with a top prize of £750
Commsave’s success mirrors a national surge in credit union membership, with Bank of England data showing record growth to 1.5 million members across the UK.
Since launching its Community Fund in 2021, Commsave has distributed more than £120,000 to charities and grassroots groups nationwide.
Matt added: “This milestone belongs not just to our team, but to every one of our 40,000 members who have chosen to be part of a financial community that does things differently. As we celebrate this achievement, we remain focused on purposeful growth – reaching more people, broadening our impact, and ensuring we continue to deliver excellent service to every member.”
