A new Good Food Plan has been launched in West Northamptonshire, aiming to support local food businesses and strengthen regional supply chains over the next three years.

Backed by West Northamptonshire Council and delivered through the Good Food Network, the plan brings together producers, hospitality operators, retailers and community organisations. It sets out priorities focused on improving access to affordable food, supporting local suppliers and reducing waste across the sector.

The strategy positions food as a key part of the local economy, alongside its role in public health and sustainability. As a result, businesses across hospitality, catering and food production are being encouraged to engage with the programme.

Matthew Passchier, sustainable food partnership project manager at West Northants, said: “Bringing together businesses, producers and communities is key to building a more resilient local food system, and this plan sets out how we can support that across West Northamptonshire.”

Key areas of focus include:

  • Supporting local farms and food producers
  • Encouraging sustainable catering and procurement
  • Reducing food waste and carbon impact
  • Expanding opportunities for food-related skills and education

The plan also aims to increase collaboration between businesses and public sector organisations, particularly around sourcing and supply. Consequently, it could create new opportunities for local suppliers to access contracts and strengthen their position in the regional market.

Alongside the strategy, the council is supporting a wider “Harvest” campaign running from May to October. The campaign promotes seasonal food, waste reduction and local sourcing, while encouraging participation from businesses and organisations across West Northamptonshire.

While much of the campaign activity is community-focused, it also highlights the role of employers and food businesses in areas such as procurement, waste management and local sourcing.

The Good Food Plan will run from 2026 to 2029, with further activity expected through partnerships, campaigns and sector engagement across the region.
