LOCAL schools and colleges gathered together in June at Wicksteed Park for the annual Northamptonshire Education Awards, organised by Northamptonshire newspapers and sponsored by Wilson Browne Solicitors.
Nine different awards showcased the dedication and commitment to education from both teachers and students which included Primary School of the Year, Secondary
Lifetime Achievement Award, Inspirational Pupil, Inspirational Teacher and Unsung Hero.
The Wilson Browne Excellence Award was won by Kacper Laskowski. In 2017, Kacper became ill and was diagnosed with a very rare blood disorder. He received urgent medical treatment in Nottingham, including nine weeks of chemotherapy. Kacper eventually returned home and to school, while still making the journey to Nottingham, and later more locally, to receive further medical interventions, treatments and blood tests.
Despite being absent for most of Terms 1 and 2 and the incredibly traumatic time both he and his family experienced, Kacper soon settled right back into school life and class routines, rekindled friendships and returned with such confidence and enthusiasm. Kacper has demonstrated bravery in ways that many of us cannot comprehend. He is an absolute credit to his school, his parents and family but, above all, to himself.
Kevin Rogers Chairman and Partner of Wilson Browne Solicitors said: “The Education Awards showcased the fantastic local achievements across the varied educational settings that provide the county with its education. Schools, colleges and other providers were honoured, along with their staff at all levels.
“It is so important to recognise the exceptional work that goes on, day in day out. I was privileged to be one of the first crop of business leaders to be invited to this year’s Association of School and College Leaders annual conference. They spoke about working with government to bring an end to continued changes in curriculum. I was reminded that those teachers and support staff who achieve what they do in spite of these extra hurdles are assets to be treasured in our county.
“The Awards also provide an important platform to learn about the inspiring achievements of those younger generations going through the system, overcoming often unimaginable odds. Everyone that was there was inspired, and left full of hope, what an invaluable event.”
