Northamptonshire businesses are being urged to prepare for what legal experts describe as the most significant overhaul of employment legislation in more than three decades, alongside growing pressure to improve staff retention and manage the rise of artificial intelligence in the workplace.

The forthcoming Employment Rights Bill is expected to introduce wide-ranging reforms that could require employers to review contracts, internal policies and day-to-day working practices well in advance of implementation. In a county where SMEs form the backbone of the economy and sectors such as logistics, manufacturing and professional services play a central role, the operational impact is likely to be significant.

Sara Marshall, Associate Partner at Franklins Solicitors, said employers should not delay planning.

β€œThe Employment Rights Bill represents the most substantial shift in employment law in over 30 years. The scale of reform means businesses cannot afford to take a wait and see approach. Many of the proposed changes will require early review of documentation and internal processes. Preparing now will place organisations in a far stronger position when the legislation comes into force.”

Alongside legislative change, employers are facing sustained challenges around recruitment and retention, with rising costs and skills shortages increasing pressure on existing teams. At the same time, artificial intelligence is becoming embedded in HR functions, from candidate screening and workforce analytics to performance management, bringing both efficiencies and new compliance considerations.

In response to these developments, Franklins Solicitors and Quest Employment are hosting a free seminar, The Employment Evolution – Law, Loyalty and AI, on Tuesday 24 March 2026 from 9:15am. The event is aimed at Northamptonshire HR directors, business owners and senior managers responsible for people strategy and compliance.

The session will examine the practical implications of the Employment Rights Bill, strategies for strengthening workforce retention and the ethical and legal considerations surrounding the adoption of AI in HR.

Attendance is free, though advance registration via Eventbrite is required.
