A Northamptonshire communications agency has launched a nationwide competition offering free strategic marketing support to charities, social enterprises and small businesses that want to increase their visibility.
Pilkington Communications has unveiled Power Up, an initiative that will provide two UK organisations with tailored communications support packages worth more than £1,500 each.
The competition is aimed at charities, social enterprises and SMEs that are making a positive impact in their communities but have limited marketing and communications resources.
Jessica Pilkington, director of Pilkington Communications, said many organisations were struggling to find the time, budget or expertise to promote themselves effectively.
She said: “We work with brilliant charities, social enterprises and businesses that make a real difference but often struggle to get noticed because they don’t have the time, budget or expertise to market themselves effectively.
“National research confirms what we’ve been seeing for years. Power Up is our way of changing that. We want to help organisations tell their story with confidence, reach more people and unlock new opportunities.”
According to figures cited by the company, HSBC UK’s 2025 Small Business Report found that only 19% of SME leaders believe their business is promoted sufficiently, while the CAF UK Charity Insights Report 2025 found that two-thirds of charity leaders identified financial pressures as their biggest challenge.
Pilkington Communications said the competition had been designed to provide flexible support rather than a fixed package, allowing each winner to choose the communications services most relevant to their organisation. Options include media relations, content creation, social media support, campaign planning, copywriting, communications training and award submissions.
Jessica added: “No two organisations face exactly the same communications challenges, so we didn’t want to offer a one-size-fits-all prize. Some need help finding their voice, others need support launching a campaign or strengthening their digital presence. Giving winners a choice means the support is tailored to where they’ll see the greatest impact, creating a stronger foundation for future growth.”
Applications are open to UK-based charities, social enterprises and SMEs that can demonstrate community, social or local economic impact and show how stronger communications could help them expand their reach or support. Entries close on 31 July.
Further information and application details are available via the Pilkington Communications website.
