A thorough clean-up

AN innovative state-of-the-art system to clean a vehicle’s exhaust diesel particulate filter, DPF, has proved, for one forward thinking company, the value of staying ahead in technology.

There has been ongoing demand for the service in the year since Kettering-based Fastline Northampton Diesel invested in the DPF cleaner. The machine fully flushes away all the trapped soot, ash and other debris in an environmentally friendly process.

A lot of drivers will only know their vehicle’s DPF is causing a problem when a warning light comes on the dash. The cost of a new DPF can range from several hundred pounds for a car to several thousand pounds for a truck. The Government has been keen to ensure that the environment is protected from harmful emissions and it is now an automatic MOT failure to remove a DPF that has been fitted to the vehicle as original equipment from new.

The DPF, located within the exhaust system, is designed to prevent small soot particles being expelled into the atmosphere. A process called regeneration should burn off the soot but this can only take place over a period of steady speed driving for more than 20 minutes. This means commuters simply taking short journeys might find their vehicle has had no opportunity to go through the regeneration process.

Eugene Finan, Managing Director of Fastline Group, said: “The new machine is the perfect solution for cleaning DPFs. We are seeing more and more vehicles with blocked filters and this machine cleans not only car, but commercial vehicle and bus DPFs as well. Our facility can provide a clean that is up to 98 per cent effective, environmentally friendly and cost effective, starting from as little as £195+VAT for a car or taxi.”

Fastline Group was formed in 1995, serving the area with truck and trailer components. In 2000, the well-known and long-established firm, Northampton Diesel was acquired by the group. Today, the business operates from its premises in Riley Road, Kettering, on the town’s Telford Way Industrial Estate.

The company offers a same-day-by appointment or next-day DPF cleaning service, with free collections and deliveries to the local area, or nationwide by carrier.
