Are all energy broker parasites?

I READ a social media post recently labelling all energy brokers parasites. Is it a common view point or a generalisation? Are we all as bad as people make out? It does seem that energy brokers get tarnished with the same brush.

I wanted to dispel a few myths using this column, as I am sure all the businesses that SK Energy have already helped and engaged with, would strongly disagree that we are categorised as a parasite. Let’s be clear, I do not take remarks like this personally, especially as it’s not the way we operate, but it is difficult to stand back when a company such as SK Energy operates in a difficult and mature market trying to disrupt it and make a difference.

Unfortunately, the commercial energy game (gas and electric) is deregulated and isn’t perhaps policed as well as it could be. This leaves the market open to rogue brokers, agencies and pretty much every man and his dog trying to infiltrate the energy market to make a quick sale. Add the compound effect of industry acronyms, terminology that could be mistaken for complexed spells from a Harry Potter novel, it is no wonder the market is a disengaged one. However, despite this, energy is part of our way of life, a necessary evil for our daily lives.

There are many local and national energy brokers, small and large alike who provide valuable and irreplaceable services to their clients. We appreciate as business owners or decision makers you get hundreds of calls or emails regarding your energy but perhaps giving five minutes of your time or taking the 101st call might just give you the right advice and information to save your business money, time and headache.
