ENGINEERING students at Northampton College will have the chance to secure work experience with the F1 World Champions thanks to a new partnership with Mercedes-AMG-High Performance Powertrains.
The Student of the Year scheme is aimed at inspiring engineers of the future, with Mercedes-AMG-High Performance Powertrains working alongside colleges throughout the UK to encourage and inspire students to be successful in their studies.
The scheme is open to all students on relevant full-time engineering courses, who can demonstrate excellence in their chosen subject and commitment throughout the duration of their course, plus timely submission of their coursework. The successful student will also have to demonstrate a keen interest and curiosity in engineering and be extremely self-motivated.
Building on a passion for both F1 and engineering, the lucky winner will get a week’s work experience at the state-of-the-art Mercedes-AMG-High Performance Powertrains technology centre in Brixworth, working alongside the highly successful and motivated team of five times F1 world Constructor Championship winning engineers.
Alongside this, the winning student will also receive £500 prize money and most excitingly, direct entry into their Apprenticeship Assessment Centre.
Helen Brookes, Learning & Development Co-ordinator at Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains said: “At Mercedes our students are our future workforce. We run many successful student schemes with apprentices and placement and graduate opportunities across all areas of the business including engineering manufacturing, assembly, test and a variety of business support functions.
“I truly believe in this scheme and working closely with Northampton College to build a talent pool for future engineering within an exciting and fast paced industry. We are thrilled to have Northampton College join us and be part of the scheme for 2019.”
