MORTONS Print, the company that prints Business Times, has been named Regional Newspaper Printer of the Year at the national Newsawards 2017.
The company, based in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, impressed judges with the high quality of its print work on titles such as the Newark Advertiser, Driffield & Wolds Weekly and Teesdale Mercury.
Chairman of judges Gary Cullum, editor and publisher of industry trade magazine Production Journal, said: “The Mortons Print portfolio of newspapers was a clear winner with judges, who described the entry as the stand out copy.
“The titles on the judges’ table demonstrated good, clean copy, vibrant colour, strong and consistent black density, good contrast in images, good registration and it scored highly. The newspapers were a pleasure to pick up – and the entry was head and shoulders above the rest.
“The choice of a quality bright, white paper stock enhanced the print quality and gave the entry an added lift. This was newspaper printing at its absolute best.”
Newspapers printed by Mortons Print also won highly commended and commended awards in the Niche Market Newspaper of the Year category – with the “first-class” quality of their print being highlighted in judges’ comments.
The award presentation evening at the Lancaster London, in Lancaster Terrace, London, was attended by Mortons Print director Steve Wickwar, commercial manager Ken Calderwood and operations manager Jim Blyth.
Steve said: “It was a great team effort and a testament to all the hard work that has been put in over the last few years. It just goes to show what can be achieved using the latest technology and the skills of a highly experienced print production team.”
Photography News, printed by Mortons, was highly commended in the Niche Market Newspaper of the Year.
