SPRATTON Hall School have been shortlisted again for the third time running for the International David Shepherd Global Canvas and Poetry competition 2017.

The brief this year was Our Precious Planet, focusing on the amazing wildlife in the world.

Last October pupils from Reception right up to Year 5 explored the question of how to depict ‘our precious planet’. The pupils came up with the idea of giant jewellery boxes in the shape of animals. This idea was used in order to mimic the fact that we store our precious items in jewellery boxes.

Each drawer within each animal was then filled either with small ceramic creatures that the pupils made in their art classes or poems that they had written on the theme. Year 8 pupils researched animal habitats to find out why and how we need to keep these animals precious.

Spratton Hall will be taking its exhibition to the Natural History Museum towards the end of March to compete against the other finalists.

If you would like to see the jewellery boxes for yourself, they will be on display at Spratton Hall’s Open Morning on Friday 12 May between 10am and noon.
