AT the start of a new year, what does 2017 promise for Griffiths Air Conditioning & Electrical Contractors?
The Burton Latimer-based business, established in 1999, continues with steady growth in all aspects of the building and engineering services sector. That encompasses air conditioning, domestic gas, electrics, evaporative coolers, heat pumps, plumbing, solar panels, underfloor heating and ventilation.
Their customer base is varied, with domestic, commercial and industrial clients not only from Northamptonshire but also the seven surrounding counties of Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Leicestershire, Oxfordshire, Rutland, Warwickshire and, occasionally, beyond.
The emphasis over recent years has been energy efficiency with the government, households and businesses all looking at ways of reducing use of the world’s precious energy resources and at the same time, saving money. Griffiths realised the business potential of this situation many years ago and became accredited installers of heat pumps and solar panels under the government’s Microgeneration Certification Scheme. In fact they were the first Northamptonshire installers to gain MCS status for heat pumps back in 2008. Since then, several hundred have been installed, with most also being regularly maintained by Griffiths.
In 2013 Griffiths opened their Energy Efficiency Centre showroom on Burton Latimer’s High Street and welcomes visitors to view working examples of heat pumps together with many other energy saving products.
So, on the technical front, what’s likely to change in 2017? Developments from Griffiths’ main supplier of air conditioning and heat pumps, Daikin, will see further energy saving improvements in many of their products. As global climate change agreements continue to plan replacements for harmful refrigerant gasses, new products with a refrigerant gas, R32, that is much less harmful to the environment, will continue to gain ground with installers and end users.
Northamptonshire continues to expand, with major new developments such as Rushden Lakes and Kettering East (now called Hanwood Park) together with many other smaller projects all over the county. Griffiths are responding to this extra demand by increasing the number of multi-skilled engineers and apprentices.
