SPRATTON Hall School have an excellent house system for the Prep School where each pupil is allocated a house; Grenville – green, Frobisher – yellow, Raleigh – red or Drake – blue. These houses encourage friendships throughout the year groups 3 to 8.
The house system is an integral and exciting part of school life at Spratton and badges are worn on the pupils’ blazers to distinguish which house each pupil is in. The houses meet each week to celebrate pupil achievements and sign in the pluses and minuses earned that week.
The houses compete during the year in many diverse activities in order to gain points to win the coveted house cup at the end of the academic year at Speech Day.
The competitions cover areas such as verse speaking, science quizzes, computer games, table-tennis, chess, French, art Christmas collage, cross-country, house singing etc. The house system encourages camaraderie between the years, competitiveness and determination and also support of each other as a group when not the winning house. Family members are always in the same house whether they are siblings, cousins or children of old Sprattonians.
In the final year at Spratton, pupils are awarded many different positions of authority, eight of these are the house captains. To be awarded the distinction of being Head of House in Year 8, having been part of that house for five years, is a coveted position of authority. The head leads their house at the weekly meetings, throughout all the different competitions during the year and they also have their name up on the boards in the main hall for time immemorial.
