DANCERS with an eye on the world stage are hoping that businesses will step in to help them hit the big time in style.
In all, 43 dancers from the Kilburn School of Dance in Wellingborough will be travelling to Rome in June after getting through to the finals of the Dance World Cup. They will performing an amazing 23 dances, from solos to group routines, against competitors from all over the world.
The school, run by Amanda Wilkins, teaches everything from classic ballet, tap and contemporary dance through to Classical Greek dance and musical theatre, and entered online video auditions to showcase the dancers’ skills.
Since they were named as finalists, the dancers and their families and friends have been busy fundraising to pay for flights and accommodation at Cinecitta World in Rome from 26 June, but £9,000 is needed to provide each dancer with a tracksuit for the trip as well as cover additional expenses, and the school is hoping that local businesses will help with sponsorship.
Poonam Mandalia, who is organising the fundraising campaign, said: “Businesses who offer sponsorship will be able to display their logos on the tracksuits, so they will benefit from all the publicity we do surrounding the World Cup. We’ll be using the same tracksuits for our Summer Show at The Cube in Corby at the end of July, so they’ll get their sponsorship seen there, too, on the tracksuits and in the event programme.
“As well as that, if anyone can help with a smaller donation towards the costs of what is going to be a fantastic experience for the dancers, we would love to hear from them.”
