The power to cut bills

THE installation of solar PV continues to form part of the wide variety of work carried out by Burton Latimer-based Griffiths.

Although rates for the government’s feed-in tariff have fallen over recent years, so has the price of installed equipment, resulting in a continued financial case for installing solar PV.

Installations consist of a number of PV panels being mounted, usually on a roof, and connected to an inverter that in turn is connected to the building’s main electricity distribution board.

The feed-in tariff pays for all the electricity generated which, if not used in the building, can be exported to the grid, resulting in extra payments. Any electricity consumed that is generated by the PV panels avoids the need to buy it from the grid, producing further savings.

Griffiths owner, Ian Griffiths, said: “Most commercial properties will use all the power the solar PV panels produce due to their daytime demand and this will, therefore, substantially reduce their electricity bills. Because of permitted development rights, most domestic and commercial properties can have solar PV fitted without applying for planning permission. Sloping roofs ideally need to be facing somewhere between south west and south east, and preferably not be shaded by other buildings or trees during the day.”

Griffiths, who are an MCS (Microgeneration Certification Scheme) approved installer, fit solar PV on both domestic and commercial premises.

To be eligible for the feed-in tariff, all properties must achieve at least a ‘D’ rated EPC (Energy Performance Certificate) before the solar PV is installed.

Griffiths are pleased to offer free, no obligation advice to anyone considering having solar panels fitted. As NICEIC approved electrical contractors, customers can be assured that all electrical work will be of the highest standard.
