WITH the festivities over and just a couple of cold winter months to look forward to, there’s nothing more inviting than a cosy pub dining room with a roaring fire and good food.
The Royal Oak in Cogenhoe is an excellent stop off point either for those looking for a tasty lunch or evening meal, or for walkers enjoying the beautiful surrounding countryside and looking for somewhere to warm up with a hot drink and take the weight off their feet.
Now open all day Tuesday to Sunday, The Royal Oak offers a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere with well-kept cask ales, a varied wine list and a range of spirits, lagers, ciders and soft drinks.
Landlady Kath Garner said: “Now that we’re open all day people have the flexibility to come in for lunch or dinner or, if they’d just like a drink with friends at other times, they can pop in to suit themselves. As well as a well-stocked bar we also do tea, coffee and hot chocolate – excellent at this time of year if you’re feeling the cold.
“When the fire is lit and the weather outside is chilly, there’s nothing better than a relaxing couple of hours with friends and family.”
At lunchtime, The Royal Oak has a range of hot and cold sandwiches as well as a new light lunch menu and bar nibbles being introduced for January. There’s also a full menu that is available at lunchtime and in the evening. The kitchen team use locally sourced produce wherever possible and pride themselves on creating dishes that combine tried and tested favourites with something a little bit special, with a host of new dishes planned for the new year.
The Royal Oak is open noon to 11pm Tuesday to Saturday, and from noon to 7.30pm on Sunday. Food is served from noon to 2pm and from 6pm to 9pm.
The pub is closed on Mondays, but is available for private hire for meetings, call 01604 890922 for details.
