A NEW £1.5m Mechanical & Electrical contract has been awarded to Briggs and Forrester Engineering Services for a new storage facility for the library of the University of Cambridge.
Working with contractor RG Carter, the new facility will house unique printed material such as books and paper files. The airtight, insulated superstructure has been designed to protect the printed material by stopping the daily cycle of temperature penetrating to the interior and slowing down relative humidity changes.
These special conditions will be achieved through specially designed heating, ventilation and controls installations.
Tight tolerances will help to preserve the interior atmosphere.
Briggs and Forrester will also install power, lighting, fire and security services and photovoltaics will help the building to achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating.
The project is due to be completed by the end of 2017.
