ANN Turner, Principal at Moulton College, was awarded an MBE in the New Year’s Honours List 2019.
Ann’s MBE is for her work in land-based education and training, and has been awarded in recognition of the full body of work that she has been involved with over the past two decades. Prior to her role at Moulton College Ann spent 12 years as Chief Executive and Principal of Myerscough College in Lancashire, having been the first woman to fulfil this role.
Ann, who joined Moulton College in May last year, said: “I feel honoured to have received recognition for my work in land-based studies, however in truth this MBE is really for my excellent team. The New Year’s Honours awards are integral in cementing the fantastic endeavours made to improve education, and this wouldn’t be possible without a collective effort. I’m so proud of our team at Moulton College for their hard work, and for achieving such an award.”
Ann’s deserved MBE highlights her leadership skills and ability to oversee developments within the education sector. Since being appointed as Principal, Ann’s work has resulted in positive changes at Moulton, and there are key areas of improvement that Ann is championing. Despite being in the role less than a year, Ann has already strengthened the partnership with governors and staff to improve the quality of the student experience. The college strategy has focused on improving teaching, learning and assessment. New leaders and managers have been recruited which has strengthened the capacity of the college to improve the quality of its education.
In order to improve and develop, Moulton College needs to align with its students’ values, and those attending the college have an integral role to play in the decision-making process. Ann is passionate about embracing the student voice, and believes that all decisions must be based around student needs.
In 2018, Moulton College’s new Food and Drinks Innovation Centre opened its doors, offering a range of courses covering food technology, nutrition and bakery. The centre was funded by the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership (SEMLEP). This facility offers state-of-the-art services including a food technology suite, sensory rooms and micro-brewery. The opening of the centre has been a positive step forward in expanding the courses available to students, offering the best facilities to maximise student potential.
Governance at the college has been strengthened with some new appointments and increased rigor and challenge to management.
Moulton College has a long and proud history of serving communities in Northamptonshire, and this is set to continue with the College once again recognised for the excellence of its provision, and the opportunities provided to students.
