Founded in 1986, the practice has supported generations of Northamptonshire businesses through periods of economic change, expansion and succession. Today, it operates from Rushmills and forms part of TC Group, one of the UK’s top 20 accountancy firms.
The Northampton office has evolved from its early roots in Cliftonville and later Moulton Park, previously trading under the Haines Watts and Fortus brands, before joining TC Group in July 2023 following sustained growth.
Importantly, the site now hosts several of TC Group’s national specialist service lines, strengthening its advisory-led approach for owner-managed and family-run businesses across the county and beyond.
“Northamptonshire is home to a huge number of ambitious, resilient businesses that play a vital role in the local economy,” said Stephen Watts, chief operating officer at TC Group. “Having traded here for more than 40 years, we’ve had the privilege of supporting generations of entrepreneurs as they grow and adapt.”
Stephen, who grew up in Northampton, added that the firm has deliberately invested in expanding advisory services alongside traditional accountancy. As a result, local clients can now access specialist support across corporate finance, HR consultancy, property services, innovation reliefs and tax advisory under one roof.
Partner Ben Young said collaboration remained central to how the team works locally. “We work closely with banks, legal advisers and intermediaries across the county. That joined-up approach strengthens the support available to Northamptonshire SMEs and helps businesses make confident, informed decisions.”
The anniversary comes during a period of continued growth for the Northampton office. Its corporate finance team, led by Patrick Faughnan, was recognised at the 2025 Insider Media Central & East Dealmakers Awards, where Patrick was named Dealmaker of the Year. Meanwhile, payroll specialist Alia Cain-Coleman was awarded Emerging Leader at the Association of Bureau Managers Awards.
TC Group has also expanded its senior advisory capability with the appointment of former Barclays director Jon Corbett as a consultant earlier this year.
Beyond client work, the firm remains actively involved in the local business community through partnerships with the Silverstone Technology Cluster, Northamptonshire Chamber of Commerce, Northampton Saints Business Club and Northamptonshire County Cricket Club’s 1978 Business Club.
It also plays a founding role in the South Midlands Growth Hub and has helped secure more than £200,000 in grant funding for regional businesses.
Looking ahead, TC Group plans further investment in client experience and specialist expertise from its Northampton base, with new roles and internal promotions planned for 2026.
“Northampton’s independent business community continues to inspire us,” Stephen said. “There’s real confidence about the future, and we’re proud to support the next chapter of growth for businesses across the county.”
