Northamptonshire is set to celebrate its first county-wide civic day this autumn with an event designed to strengthen community pride and drive growth in the visitor economy.

Northamptonshire Day, organised jointly by West and North Northamptonshire Councils and tourism body Discover Northamptonshire, will take place on Saturday 25 October at Northampton’s regenerated Market Square.

The event will highlight local talent, heritage, food, and culture while encouraging businesses, schools, and community groups to take part by decorating premises, running themed promotions, and hosting activities of their own.

Sponsors already backing the initiative include Billing Aquadrome, Delapré Abbey, EMW Law, Northampton BID, Northants Sings Out, Silverstone Park and the South Midlands Local Skills Improvement Plan.

Richard Clinton, chair of Discover Northamptonshire, said the event would “shine a light on our heritage, creativity, and visitor offer while giving residents and guests the chance to explore hidden gems and shared stories. It’s this kind of collaboration that brings people together and builds pride in place, whilst actively showcasing Northamptonshire as a must-visit destination.”

As the county’s accredited Local Visitor Economy Partnership, Discover Northamptonshire works with Visit England to attract visitors, support local tourism businesses, and expand Northamptonshire’s international profile.

Councillor Mark Arnull, leader of West Northamptonshire Council, said the day would “champion our county’s strengths and show the dedication we have as local authorities for creating opportunities that reflect the creativity, energy and unity of our county.”

Activities on the day will include live entertainment, heritage exhibitions, family-friendly stalls, and a county-wide social media campaign under #NorthantsDay. Plans are already in place for next year’s event to be hosted in the north of the county.

Northampton Market Square, recently reopened following a major regeneration project, will provide the backdrop. The venue has become a hub for local traders and events and will also host the Women’s Rugby World Cup Fan Zone in the coming weeks.

Full event details, including how businesses can get involved, are available on the Discover Northamptonshire website.
