THE experienced team at a traditional village pub like The Stag’s Head in Great Doddington know how to add the finishing touches to any festive celebration.

The independently run pub and restaurant is open every day from 11.30am to 11pm, 10.30pm on Sundays, with a Christmas menu available from the end of November through to Christmas Eve.

Many people have experienced first-hand what the team can offer at the pub which boasts a beamed restaurant and cellar restaurant, an open plan lounge, a dog friendly garden bar plus various function rooms.

It is the 28th year since Gerry and Bob Rendle took on the venue and they are supported by a loyal team headed up by Licensee and General Manager Kelly Rendle, Assistant Manager Demi King, Head Chef Glenn Shelswell, who has been working at The Stag’s Head for 27 years, and Chef Len King, who has 21 years’ service.

The Christmas two or three-course menu is now available online, with temptations such as Smoky Mac & Cheese with a crispy leek topping; sauteed garlic mushrooms; obviously the traditional roast turkey with all the trimmings; extra mature prime sirloin of beef, slowly oven roasted with a hint of garlic in a red wine and rosemary gravy; or a fillet of sea bass baked in garlic butter, served with spring onion mash.

There will be two Party Nights on Friday 13 and 20 December, with a disco and late bar.

The Stag’s Head serves high-quality food seven days a week, including three roasts on a Sunday, plus their full menu and specials of the day. Food is served from 12 noon to 8pm on Sundays giving customers another excellent reason to visit.

The latest menus include tempting starters like tiger prawns in a sizzling garlic sauce; shredded warm aromatic duck or beansprout and beetroot salad;, maybe followed by an extra mature chargrilled fillet steak, topped with a Portobello mushroom stuffed with a garlic and tomato concasse; or perhaps Gressingham duck breast served sliced and pink with a sweet cherry sauce. Not to mention, of course, the pub’s most popular Chef’s Handmade Steak Pie or good old shepherd’s pie topped with cheesy mash. There is something to suit everyone’s taste including a really good selection of snacks and a dairy and gluten free menu & a brand new tapas menu.

The Stag’s Head team pride themselves on catering for special occasions including birthdays, anniversaries, christenings, wakes and business meetings. Various other menus are available on request, or online, including options for buffets, snacks, barbecues and parties plus set menus or a bespoke menu for the extra special occasion.
