Breaking through in a man’s world

A LOCAL woman is making her voice heard in the traditional male dominated world of engineering on a project that will empower business big and small to showcase what they can do in 2020.

Kerry Bate, the Owner of Polka Dot Events Management, is hosting the East Midlands Engineering Expo 2020 which will be held at the Kettering Conference Centre on Wednesday 15 April and which will see some of the biggest national names in engineering taking part.

“The East Midlands is home to some of the most exciting, talented and forward thinking engineering businesses,” said Kerry, who has over 15 years project management experience and whose CV boasts previous roles with Weetabix and Hafele UK. “That is why the 2020 Expo is a perfect place for any firm of any size in the world of engineering to be.”

While engineering goes from strength to strength across the UK, Kerry is very aware that the male dominated sector can be daunting for women to work in.

“It is really important to make clear that every week I meet some very dedicated and very successful women working in engineering,” said Kerry. “My passion is to see even more talented people, especially women, move into engineering in 2020 and beyond. If the Expo next year can help do that then it can only be a good thing.”

The East Midlands Engineering Expo will showcase some of the best businesses within the industries, it is a business to business event to help build and maintain long-term business relationships bringing together clients, contractors, consultants and many more across the country.

“Across the business world we see more and more women standing up to be counted,” Kerry said. “I work with numerous engineering firms who passionately want a more diverse workforce. While it will always been important that any prejudice or stereotypes are addressed, I want to encourage other women to stand up and ensure their voice and their skills are seen and heard by leading players in engineering.”

The East Midlands Engineering Expo will be excellent platform to build and maintain relationships for professionals within the Electrical, Mechanical and Construction industry. The purpose of the event will be to facilitate knowledge sharing, networking, and collaboration between sellers and buyers.

“The Expo will be a place where those looking for new leads, new opportunities and new work will be and we are very much looking forward to a great day for engineering,” said Kerry.
