NENE Valley Rotary Club is organising, for the fourth consecutive year, Northamptonshire’s biggest indoor kart racing event in aid of charity.
100 teams of five drivers each will compete in one of 10 heats held on Tuesday or Wednesday evenings at the Teamworks indoor karting circuit in St James with the winner of each heat racing off in the grand final to be held in April.
The Rokart challenge this year surpassed all previous years with more teams, more very competitive races and more money raised for charity.
Over £10,000 was given to local charities with the main beneficiary being Sailability who were presented with a replacement boat to enable them to continue taking disabled people sailing on Pitsford Water.
Neil Hufton from the Rotary club explained that each year they raise money for different charities and in 2019 these will be Ups n Downs (who support local families with children with Downs Syndrome) and the local branch of the Parkinson’s Society.
It is hoped to have 100 teams representing both companies and group of individuals from the Northampton area. Large organisations like Nationwide, Shoosmiths and McIntyre Hudson regularly support the challenge, but smaller companies and groups of friends are welcome to join in. While each event and particularly the final is very competitive, it is open to anyone in Northamptonshire to compete and have fun. Full briefing and practice sessions are available to anyone who has never raced before.
This year the fastest company team was P. R. Pettit and Sons Ltd,, Tollers won the Fastest Law Firm in Northampton trophy and a team of talented youngsters won the main trophy.
