Residents, businesses, and community groups have more time to help shape the future of Northampton town centre, with the consultation on the draft Town Centre Masterplan now extended until Monday 25 August.
More than 1,300 people have already taken part, offering feedback on priorities for the next 15 years, including retail and hospitality, business growth, safety, accessibility, culture, heritage, and transport.
Key themes from responses so far include:
-
Greyfriars and Horse Market as top priorities for improvement, followed by the Nene Riverside.
-
Pride in Northampton’s rich history, historic buildings, and shoe-making heritage.
-
Appreciation for the town’s arts, cultural scene, and local sports achievements.
Respondents have said they want Northampton to become a distinctive retail and leisure destination, easier and safer to walk and cycle around, and better at showcasing its heritage and identity.
A drop-in event will take place at the Grosvenor Centre (Ground Floor, outside River Island) on Saturday 9 August from 10am to 4pm, where people can meet the consultation team in person.
Cllr James Petter, deputy leader of West Northamptonshire Council and cabinet member for local economy, culture and leisure, said: “We’re extending the consultation to ensure even more voices are heard. This is a pivotal moment for Northampton, and your input can directly shape the future of our town centre.”
