Success for students

BOSWORTH Independent College A-level student, Vienna, has gained a Gold award in the British Biology Olympiad (BBO) alongside six fellow students receiving Silver and Bronze awards, which is a tremendous academic achievement.

The British Biology Olympiad encourages expanding student’s knowledge and the development of their talents in biology related fields. The bespoke challenges enable students to demonstrate their academic potential and to be proudly rewarded with publicly recognised certificates and medals. This year the competition invited and celebrated students from 668 schools around the world.

Vienna, who is aiming to study Law at university, has now successfully received offers from University of Warwick and Queen Mary’s University of London.

She was pleasantly surprised by her performance in the BBO, and said: “I was surprised I had achieved Gold in the Olympiad but this achievement ultimately boils down to how excellent my teachers are. Their consistent teaching has helped me to grasp the material really well, and so I was able to apply that knowledge in the Olympiad.”

Mr Pitt, Head of Biology, said: “Vienna is a highly intelligent, extremely polite, dedicated and articulate student. She thoroughly deserves the Gold award.”

Vienna will have the chance to be presented with an award by the Royal Society of Biology at the official ceremony in London.

Others notable students are Christine (Bronze) who has offers from the University of Brighton and University of Sussex to study Medicine. Adaeze (Bronze) has an offer from Plymouth University to study Dentistry. Abbie (Bronze) has offers from University of Nottingham, University of Liverpool and Harper and Keel to study Veterinary Sciences.

Oxbridge, medical and highly competitive universities are looking for candidates who have dedication, initiative, persistence and the ability to communicate well. While the process may seem challenging, the result will be a rewarding career in highly competitive field.
